Anyone familiar with the 1968 Detroit Tigers knows that Denny McLain and Mickey Lolich were the pitching stars during a magical season that ended with a World Series championship.
McLain won 31 games and Lolich went 3-0 in the World Series while winning the decisive Game 7 on the road against the defending champion St. Louis Cardinals.
But who was the team's most clutch hitter?
Several players deserve consideration. Willie Horton led the '68 Tigers in home runs (36) while knocking in 85 runs, Jim Northrup topped the club with 90 RBIs and Detroit got 25 homers apiece from Bill Freehan and Norm Cash.
