The Detroit Tigers played a winning brand of baseball, shining in all three facets — pitching, hitting and defense — against the Minnesota Twins. Clicking on all cylinders has been a rarity this season.
On Wednesday, the Tigers executed a plan that nearly guarantees a victory.
Left-handed starter Tarik Skubal fired seven scoreless innings, lowering his ERA to 2.15, and two relievers chipped in a pair of scoreless frames. The offense posted nine hits and passed the baton in a four-run fifth inning. The defense, without shortstop Javier Báez, didn't make a mistake until first baseman Spencer Torkelson's fielding error in the ninth inning.
