Now that the Oakland A’s are truly gone, let’s look at the 6-time Oscar-nominated drama that is Moneyball. Written as a book by Michael Lewis, it follows the 2002 Oakland Athletics as they implement a stats-based approach to their team, ultimately reaching the playoffs multiple times with one of the lowest payrolls in the league.
The focus is on GM Billy Beane and assistant GM Peter Brand (aka Paul DePodesta) and follows them as they fight against convention, owners, and their own players to make the team a juggernaut. However, like many films based on true events, it takes significant liberties in the name of drama.
