Special to the Detroit Free Press
At 9:55 p.m. local time on Tuesday night in Seattle, right-hander Spencer Turnbull made history, blanking the Seattle Mariners, 5-0, for the eighth no-hitter in the Detroit Tigers' existence.
Turnbull was dominant all night, walking just two Mariners — rookie Jarred Kelenic to open the fourth inning and Jose Marmolejos to open the ninth — and striking out nine at T-Mobile Field. Mitch Haniger, who entered the game with 12 home runs this season, made the final out of the game, striking out on a foul tip to catcher Eric Haase.
