Dickie Noles got any uneasy feeling when the Chicago Cubs traded him to Detroit in September of 1987, even though the Tigers were in a thrilling pennant race with the Toronto Blue Jays.
"The year before, I was pitching for the Cleveland Indians," said Noles, who will be the featured guest in the West Michigan Whitecaps Tigers Friday this week at Fifth Third Ballpark. "We were playing (Detroit) in Cleveland and a little bean ball war broke out. Sparky wasn't very fond of me and he let the papers know it."
All was forgiven the night Noles arrived from Chicago on Sept.
