They seem like such an unlikely pair. Two pitchers from opposite sides of the world.
Warwick Saupold, the Aussie right-hander who has become the Detroit Tigers’ mop-up guy in what has turned into a mop-up season, a role he’s filling nicely.
And Shane Greene, the right-hander from Clermont, Fla., who has turned into the Tigers’ closer.
But they have lockers next to each other along the back wall of the clubhouse at Comerica Park, and they are throwing partners before every game.
“We are both on the same program,” Saupold said after Thursday’s 7-5 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates.
