Seidel: Tigers’ revamped bullpen is armed and garrulous

LAKELAND, Fla. – I was trying to find Mark Lowe, the Tigers’ new relief pitcher, and I was told he looks like a pirate.

Sure enough, Lowe walked by wearing a skull cap that looked like a pirate’s headband, and he was sporting a long beard.

“What do you think of this bullpen?” I asked him.

“We have some really good arms, some really good characters,” he said.

“Characters meaning personalities?” I asked.

“Yeah.”

“Is that important?”

“Absolutely,” Lowe said. “They throw us down there in a hole for a reason. So it’s good to have fun people around you.
