Detroit Tigers manager Brad Ausmus was still there – still in the dugout and still fully clothed – at least, for a little bit longer.
Then, he went ballistic.
Ausmus stormed across the field in Comerica Park on Monday night, furious at Doug Eddings, the home-plate umpire with the questionable strike zone, who had rung up Nick Castellanos.
Ausmus protected Castellanos, getting him out of harm’s way, and then Ausmus went full-blown nuts. It was a fantastic tirade, full of emotion and passion, more emotion than we have ever seen from him, as if all the pressure and stress and anxiety came boiling out on this night when the Tigers had blown an 8-0 lead against the hapless Minnesota Twins.
