Scott Harris and the Detroit Tigers had a fairly good offseason

As the Detroit Tigers make their final preparations for Thursday’s Opening Day matchup in Los Angeles against the Dodgers, it’s time for one last look at Scott Harris and his front office’s offseason. The past five months were ultimately dominated by the pursuit of new Boston Red Sox infielder Alex Bregman, but even beyond the main free agent signings, there were some pretty interesting decisions made along the way.

The main additions were second baseman and much needed right-handed hitter Gleyber Torres, and right-handed starter Jack Flaherty. Those two players are pretty strong upgrades to the roster on one-year guaranteed deals, and cost a combined $50 million.
