SEATTLE – Alex Wilson’s hands were on his hips.
The baseball had yet to land behind the leftfield fence but once it was hit, there was no doubt it would. And as Mike Zunino rounded the bases after turning a spinning slider into a laser with one swing, the Tigers’ reliever stayed there, off the mound, with his hands on his hips.
It was Wilson who allowed the biggest home run in Monday night’s series opener against the Mariners at Safeco Field, not starting pitcher Anibal Sanchez, like many would have predicted. Zunino’s two-run home run kept Wilson stalled in struggle mode, the biggest blast in the Tigers’ third straight loss, 6-2.
