Ronny Rodriguez 'ready for the moment' in Detroit Tigers' win vs. Red Sox

BOSTON — Ronny Rodriguez was ready.

On Monday afternoon, after the series opener between the Detroit Tigers and the Boston Red Sox was washed out, manager Ron Gardenhire told Rodriguez that he would be playing shortstop the next day.

So Rodriguez, the baseball-playing rap artist nicknamed “El Felino,” called his parents.

They still live where Rodriguez spent much of his adolescence rooting for the Cubs, 30 miles north of Boston in Lawrence, Mass.

“I was ready for the moment,” he said.

And on Tuesday afternoon — in the opener of a day-night doubleheader — his moment came, recording a few of his greatest hits in a 7-4 win over the Red Sox.
