DETROIT -- Ronny Rodriguez hit his first career home run, part of a barrage of three solo shots in the sixth inning, as the Detroit Tigers beat the Chicago White Sox 7-2 Thursday afternoon in the series opener at Comerica Park.
Nicholas Castellanos, Mikie Mahtook and Rodriguez all homered to left field in the sixth against White Sox starter James Shields.
Tigers starter Matthew Boyd pitched six scoreless innings, striking out six and walking just one.
The Tigers got on the board in the fourth when Ronny Rodriguez smacked an RBI double to left-center. The ball took a big bounce over the fence, costing Rodriguez a second RBI and a possible triple.
