ORLANDO, Fla. -- Detroit Tigers manager Ron Gardenhire was still in pain Thursday, two days after he was struck in the ribs during batting practice.
"It hurts. It hurt when it hit me, too, but I couldn't let them see it," Gardenhire said.
Gardenhire was standing behind the protective screen placed behind second base to protect ball boys and others who have their back to their hitter.
But Gardenhire was standing just far enough way from the screen that a well-hooked liner could reach him. Jarrod Saltalamacchia's not-so-soft liner did just that.
"It got me," Gardenhire said.
