LAKELAND, Fla. -- Furious with a series of mental mistakes in Sunday's loss at Port Charlotte, Detroit Tigers manager Ron Gardenhire vowed the issue would be addressed forcefully with his team.
In a Monday morning meeting, he delivered on the promise.
"I think I did exactly what I set out to do," Gardenhire said. "I was a little fired up...I turned the volume up a little bit. I said what I had to say."
After Sunday's game, Gardenhire was especially frustrated with pitchers Alex Wilson and Warwick Saupold, who failed to back up bases after giving up hits.
