The biggest name is the one that remains.
The Detroit Tigers and arbitration-eligible rightfielder J.D. Martinez could not come to an agreement on a 2016 contract prior to Friday afternoon’s deadline, and stand $2 million apart after exchanging salary figures.
According to MLB Network’s Jon Heyman, Martinez filed at $8 million and the Tigers at $6 million.
Martinez, 28, is predicted by MLBTradeRumors.com to earn $7.8 million in arbitration.
After a breakout 2014 season, Martinez put on a repeat performance this past season, hitting .282 with 38 home runs and 102 RBIs.
