The Tigers reportedly are in "serious" negotiations with free-agent right-handed pitcher Jordan Zimmermann.
Jon Morosi of Fox Sports wrote on Twitter that the Tigers are negotiating with Zimmermann, "sources tell me and (Fox's Ken Rosenthal), with multiple people saying talks have become serious."
Zimmermann, 29, has spent all seven of his MLB seasons with the Nationals. He has a career record of 70-50 with a 3.32 ERA and 1.16 WHIP. He has 903 strikeouts over 1094 innings, with 221 walks.
If acquired, Zimmermann immediately would be inserted into the Tigers' starting rotation.
Zimmermann has not had fewer than 12 wins in each of his last four seasons, with a career high of 19 in 2013.
