Red Sox beat up Bruce Rondon, Tigers fall

Detroit – The Tigers have shown a good deal of faith in Bruce Rondon. And that faith was largely based on his strong finish last season.

But he didn’t pitch well in spring training and he has been banged around in the early going this season.

After the dispiriting 7-5 loss to the Red Sox Sunday, Manager Brad Ausmus and general manager Al Avila will have a lot to discuss regarding Rondon’s near future – both his role and roster spot.

Rondon inherited a 4-3 lead in the eighth inning and didn’t get an out. He walked the leadoff hitter Mookie Betts on four pitches, gave up a single to Chris Young and issued an intentional pass to Mitch Moreland after Justin Upton’s throwing error allowed the runners to advance to second and third.
