The yearly prospect rankings are nearly all in.
And right-handed starting pitcher Matt Manning is the Detroit Tigers’ consensus No. 1 prospect, according to the major publications.
Manning was most recently ranked at the top of the organization’s Top 10 list by Baseball Prospectus, which released its list earlier in the week.
About Manning, Baseball Prospectus’ Steve Givarz writes: “(He) has the look of a future top of the rotation starter.”
The risks are obvious: Manning, 19, was the Tigers’ first round draft pick (No. 9 overall) in last year’s MLB draft. He is an uber athlete fresh out of high school with limited professional experience under his belt, so he is more potential than production at this point.
