Long.
That’s how left-handed reliever Chad Bell described his journey to the major leagues.
Bell was called up from Triple-A Toledo to provide some long relief for the Detroit Tigers.
The Tigers started a four-game series Monday against the Indians, which have a number of left-handed hitters. That led to the Tigers sending right-handed pitching prospect Joe Jimenez back to Toledo to work on his slider.
Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said Bell was scheduled to make his fifth start for the Mud Hens on Monday but was recommended by Mud Hens manager Mike Rojas and pitching coach Jeff Pico to fill a need.
