LAKELAND, Fla. -- Detroit Tigers infielder Omar Infante isn't playing like someone who's washed up.
But whether he'll be a big-leaguer on Opening Day largely depends on what happens on the other 29 Major League teams.
Infante, 35, signed a minor-league contract this winter with the Tigers, his old club, knowing that a lot had to happen for him to make the 25-man roster.
Some of it has happened: Infante has hit the ball hard, played great defense and shown the versatility to hold down a utility job if needed.
But other things haven't helped his cause: Starting shortstop Jose Iglesias is still here, one of several Tigers unsuccessfully shopped during the offseason.
