N.Y. Yankees 8, Detroit 4: New Tiger Mike Pelfrey takes blame for loss

Mike Pelfrey blamed himself, not the weather.

Pelfrey, who signed a two-year, $16-million deal in the off-season, allowed six runs over 3 2/3 innings in his first start for the Tigers.

The Tigers went on to lose, 8-4, to the Yankees today at Comerica Park.

After reaching double digits in hits in their first three games, Detroit finished with seven in its first loss of the season. Tigers manager Brad Ausmus was ejected in the fifth inning for arguing balls and strikes with home plate umpire Paul Emmel.

Pelfrey allowed eight hits and one walk with three strikeouts.
