Houston — His whole body sagged. He was, at that moment, a portrait of abject frustration.
Michael Fulmer was one strike from stranding a lead-off double at second base in the third inning Saturday and he made the pitch he wanted to Marwin Gonzalez — an off-speed pitch outside and off the plate. Gonzalez chased it, as Fulmer hoped. But he got the end of the bat on the ball and dumped a blooper into shallow left field — an RBI single.
It’s been the story of his season. Fulmer wasn’t hit particularly hard — not early in the game, at least — but he was beaten for the ninth time this season.
