For the first time in 25 years, there will be no TigerFest.
What was long assumed was made official on Friday afternoon, when the Tigers announced that their yearly winter event would not be taking place in 2020.
Last year was the 24th TigerFest, which dates back to 1996.
In its place, the team is planning a summer version of the event at Comerica Park.
As star players have departed in trades and losses have piled up during the team’s rebuilding, the Tigers have explored ways to better market TigerFest. The event, which traditionally falls in the second half of January, had traditionally been a signal that spring training was soon approaching.
