LAKELAND, Fla. -- Last spring, Drew VerHagen was making what seemed like an unlikely bid for a spot in the Detroit Tigers starting rotation.
A year later, he's so focused on winning a bullpen spot that he didn't even bother pitching out of a wind-up during his bullpen session on Saturday. Every pitch was from the stretch.
"I expect a lot out of myself this year. I feel healthy. I want to be a really good late-inning reliever for us," he said after wrapping up his session at the team's Tiger Town training facility.
