PITTSBURGH – Jeimer Candelario isn't in the starting lineup for the Detroit Tigers tonight. But he was in the major leagues once again.
Candelario, acquired as part of the deal that sent left-handed pitcher Justin Wilson and catcher Al Avila to the Chicago Cubs, was called up because shortstop Jose Iglesias went on the bereavement list Sunday.
Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said another bench player was needed while the team played a National League park.
“We only had three options – only three guys on the roster we could bring up,” Ausmus said.
