DETROIT -- Major League baseball is reviewing the pitch that pegged umpire Quinn Wolcott in the chest during a game in Cleveland on Wednesday, the Associated Press reported Friday.
The pitch thrown by Detroit Tigers pitcher Buck Farmer was missed by catcher John Hicks, knocking Wolcott to the ground in the third inning of the game against the Indians. Wolcott ultimately stayed in the game after being checked out by an athletic trainer.
The Tigers were upset by insinuations that they intentionally drilled Wolcott in retaliation for ejecting two Tigers a few moments earlier.
