The Detroit Tigers selected left-handed pitcher Tyler Alexander with the No. 65 overall pick in tonight's Major League Baseball amateur player draft, their third of three selections among the top 75 picks of the draft. Alexander, a sophomore pitcher who was not highly ranked, was 6-2 with a 2.65 ERA in 15 appearances for the Horned Frogs in 2015.
Alexander made some waves as a freshman in 2014, going 10-3 with a 2.36 ERA in 20 appearances. He was named to the Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American team and was a 2nd-team All-Big 12 Conference performer.
The Tigers originally drafted Alexander in the 23rd round of the 2013 draft, but were unable to ink the left-hander to a pro contract.
