Major League Baseball's amateur player draft is unique, and not just because the players are so far removed from the major leagues when selected. Of the four major American professional sports, only baseball's amateur draft occurs during the season of play.
While fans of other sports have to wait months to see their new draftees in action, baseball fans can get a glimpse of their team's new talent right away. Many of them might not make their major league debut for three or four years (if ever), but the College World Series offers a great showcase for fans to get acquainted with the newly drafted talent.
