DETROIT -- Major League Baseball said there was conclusive evidence to overturn a call at the plate on Friday that ultimately cost the Detroit Tigers an Opening Day victory.
The league issued the statement several hours after manager Ron Gardenhire told reporters that MLB had acknowledged to Tigers general manager Al Avila that errors were made in Friday's review.
The league said it did no such thing and in fact conveyed the opposite message to the club.
"The nature of the exchange with the Tigers was that the replay officials made the correct call based on conclusive evidence," MLB said in a statement released to the Associated Press on Monday afternoon.
