DETROIT -- The Detroit Tigers weren't intentionally trying to hit umpire Quinn Wolcott on Wednesday as payback for a pair of ejections, Major League Baseball has determined after a brief inquiry.
The league said Friday that Chief Baseball Officer Joe Torre reviewed the play and would issue no discipline.
Detroit Tigers catcher John Hicks missed a pitch thrown by Buck Farmer in the third inning of the game against the Indians in Cleveland. The ball struck Wolcott in the chest, knocking him to the ground. He stayed in the game after being checked out by an athletic trainer.
