Miguel Cabrera, handed 7-game suspension for brawl, furious about Yankees' light punishment

CHICAGO -- Detroit Tigers star Miguel Cabrera was suspended for seven games after setting off a series of brawls in Thursday's game against the New York Yankees.

Major League Baseball issued the penalties on Friday afternoon.

Also suspended were Tigers pitcher Alex Wilson (four games), Tigers manager Brad Ausmus (one game) and Yankees catchers Gary Sanchez (four games) and Austin Romine (two games).

Several others were fined but not suspended.

Ausmus said he was most "shocked" by the light suspension given to Sanchez, who threw two punches at players pinned on the ground.

Cabrera was furious about the lack of penalties given the Yankees, including the lack of a suspension for pitcher Tommy Kahnle, who was immediately ejected after throwing behind Cabrera's back.
