James McCann said he knows things will be different as he heads to spring training as the Detroit Tigers’ No. 1 catcher.
“It’s different in the sense that I have a relationship with the returning players,” McCann said last week during the team’s winter caravan.
The Tigers decided to part ways with veteran catcher Alex Avila, who signed with the Chicago White Sox.
“While I may be listed No. 1, I still have to prove myself like anyone else,” McCann said. “It doesn’t matter who you are, if you don’t perform, you’re not going to be on the field.
