Maybe it’s time for manager Ron Gardenhire and his coaches to get mad.
Gardenhire was ejected in the eighth inning when he argued with plate umpire Manny Gonzalez. Bench coach Steve Liddle took it from there and spoke with reporters after the game. One of the key questions was about Leonys Martin’s straight steal of home in the eighth inning off pitcher Victor Alcantara that pushed the Indians’ lead to 4-2.
Liddle was visibly upset and called the play “unacceptable” and “Little League.”
He was right. A right-hander like Alcantara should be more aware of a runner on third.
