Back in January, with traces of snow on the ground in downtown Detroit, Matthew Boyd had a conversation about pitching with Jack Morris.
The conversation, Boyd said, would help set his attack plan for the 2018 season.
On Sunday afternoon at Comerica Park, Boyd warmed up for his start against the Twins with Morris’ number retirement ceremony happening in front of his eyes. Then, he went and attacked the Twins like Morris would.
Boyd keyed the Tigers’ series win over the Twins, allowing one run on two hits over six innings. The Tigers won, 4-2.
