PHOENIX – Base hits are going to happen during a game. Even passed balls and errors. But walking the pitcher?
That’s not supposed to happen.
Yet here was Detroit Tigers starter Matt Boyd walking Arizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Zack Godley with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning to load the bases Wednesday night, and one could guess what happened next.
“There should have never been a situation to pitch to (A.J.) Pollock,” Boyd said.
But after that fateful walk, Boyd had to pitch to Pollock, one of the better hitters in the Diamondbacks lineup.
