Martin's return lifts Tigers in victory over Rays

Detroit —The Tigers decided — no, manager Ron Gardenhire decided — that one night off for center fielder Leonys Martin was more than enough rest for his barking hamstring.

“I can’t take him on the bench anymore,” Gardenhire joked before the game. “He’s driving me crazy — that high-pitched voice.”

Can’t take him on the bench, can’t do without him in the lineup.

Martin banged out two hits in his return Tuesday, including a go-ahead RBI double in the fifth inning to lead the Tigers to a 2-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays.
