DETROIT -- The Blue Jays sent the Rally Goose craze south in a hurry with an eight-run surge off Michael Fulmer and the Tigers' bullpen, turning an afternoon pitching duel into an 8-4 Detroit loss Sunday at Comerica Park.
Fulmer and Blue Jays starter Aaron Sanchez ruffled hitters with five scoreless innings apiece before Justin Smoak's two-run homer in the sixth put Toronto in front. Leonys Martin helped the Tigers peck away with a solo homer in the bottom of the sixth, but a leadoff single and a walk chased Fulmer in the seventh, allowing the Blue Jays to take off with four run-scoring hits off Warwick Saupold.
