Live Tigers blog: Verlander dominant through six

Justin Verlander needed nine pitches to exit the mound in the sixth inning. He’s thrown 83 pitches, 57 for strikes and holds a 4-0 lead.

Verlander has nine strikeouts and allowed two hits — a pair of third-inning singles. He’s walked two batters.

Today Verlander became the second pitcher in Tigers’ franchise history to record 2,000 career strikeouts. It occurred in the fourth inning when he struck out Eddie Rosario.

In the sixth, Twins shortstop Eduardo Nunez and right fielder Miguel Sano flied out, and first baseman Byung Ho Park grounded out.

In his past 21 innings (three starts), Verlander has allowed one earned run.
