Top 9th: Parnell gets into jam, escapes
The ninth inning was a Jekyll and Hyde inning for Tigers reliever Bobby Parnell. Parnell walked Kevin Pillar to start the inning, and allowed Darwin Barney to reach on an odd fielder's choice, in which Parnell attempted to throw to second base but released the ball late, throwing it shy of shortstop. After striking out Jose Bautista, Parnell intentionally walked Josh Donaldson, loading the bases. He then struck out Edwin Encarnacion (swinging) and got Russell Martin to foul out, ending the threat. The Tigers are down to their last three outs, trailing 2-0.
