J.D. Martinez led things off with a single to center field and was able to score on a two-out, line-drive double by James McCann to left field to cut the Texas lead to 4-1.
Justin Upton struck out and Casey McGehee flew out to right field after Martinez's leadoff hit.
Andrew Romine stranded McCann on second base by grounding out to end the inning.
A positive for the Tigers going forward is that they've been able to drive up Yu Darvish's pitch count. It's already at 47 through two innings.
