Live Tigers blog: Scherzer tosses gem, Tigers lose 3-2

Former Tiger Max Scherzer threw a special game Wednesday night.

He tossed a complete game, striking out 20 while not walking a batter in Washington's 3-2 win over the Tigers. Scherzer allowed two runs on six hits.

The last major league pitcher to throw 20 strikeouts was Roger Clemens on Sept. 18, 1996 -- also against the Tigers.

Jose Iglesias and J.D. Martinez each hit solo home runs for Detroit.

Ex-National Jordan Zimmermann started for the Tigers. He went seven innings, allowing three runs on seven hits, while striking out three and walking three.

The Tigers begin a three-game weekend series against the Baltimore Orioles Friday night.
