Bottom 8th: Tigers hold Nats

Despite putting a pair of runners on in the bottom of the eighth, the Tigers held the Nationals off the scoreboard. Lefty Kyle Ryan started the inning in relief of starter Jordan Zimmermann, who allowed three runs in seven innings. Ryan got a pair of outs, the second coming when Bryce Harper was called safe trying to steal second base, but the call was reviewed and overturned. Righty Mark Lowe got the third out, and after eight the Nationals lead 3-1.

Top 8th: Scherzer strikes out Tigers 1-2-3

Nationals starter Max Scherzer continued his dominant start by striking out all three Tigers batters in the top of the eighth.
