Tigers take high schooler Manning at No. 9

The Tigers drafted two-sport athlete Matt Manning, a right-handed pitcher from Sheldon High School in Sacramento, California. The 6-foot-6 Manning, who played both baseball and basketball in high school, has a high 90's fastball, which according to MLB Network analysts has reached as high as 98 mph.

Padres take righty Quantrill at No. 8

The San Diego Padres took right-hander Cal Quantrill (Stanford) with the eighth pick. He is the son of former MLB pitcher Paul Quantrill, who played from 1992-2005. The younger Quantrill missed the 2016 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery.
