DETROIT -- When Ron Gardenhire's phone chimed on the team bus Sunday afternoon in Minneapolis, he was delighted to see who was calling.
Former Detroit Tigers outfielder Leonys Martin, who spent 11 days in the hospital with a life-threatening bacterial infection, was checking in to say hello.
"He Facetimed as we were leaving Minnesota on the bus. The phone rings and he's got that big smile," Gardenhire said. "It was really nice to see him. We had some good conversation. Everybody came up and got to say hi. It was pretty cool just seeing him smile and everything.
