Late-game offense powers Tigers over Diamondbacks

Phoenix — Add-on runs are a beautiful thing, especially to a team that has just reconfigured its bullpen.

Justin Upton launched his sixth home run of the season — an absolute scud into the center-field batter’s eye — in the eighth inning. Then Nick Castellanos was walked with the bases loaded in the ninth and the Tigers posted a 7-3 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks Tuesday without any late drama.

Justin Wilson, whom manager Brad Ausmus tabbed as the new closer earlier in the day, pitched the ninth, albeit in a non-save situation. He went through the top of the Diamondbacks lineup in order.
