CHICAGO -- There were no fisticuffs on Friday night. Just a quick, clean and largely quiet game between two teams at the bottom of the American League standings.
Detroit Tigers rookie Joe Jimenez gave up back-to-back hits without retiring a batter in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Tigers lost to the Chicago White Sox 3-2 at Guaranteed Rate Field.
Justin Verlander pitched seven strong innings, allowing just two runs on six hits and striking out eight. But the Tigers' offense failed to give him much support again, managing only two runs against White Sox starter Miguel Gonzalez.
