Zimmermann didn't receive help from his defense in the first inning, but recovered to throw eight innings with six strikeouts
Right-hander Jordan Zimmermann had his longest and best outing of the season Wednesday night at Comerica Park.
But the Detroit Tigers couldn’t do enough offensively to overcome the two runs scored by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the first inning, losing 2-1.
It was their sixth defeat in the past eight games.
Zimmermann allowed two runs on six hits over a season-high eight innings.
