SEATTLE – Jordan Zimmermann did his part.
The Detroit Tigers’ offense?
Through seven innings, not so much. But then, minutes after summer officially began at 9:24 p.m. Pacific Time on Tuesday night, on a chilly evening at Safeco Field, the team’s offense finally warmed up.
It was ignited by who else but Ian Kinsler, who stole third base and scored on a wild pitch to pull the Tigers within one. Then, one pitch later, J.D. Martinez did what he does, hitting a game-tying solo home run to right-centerfield.
It wasn’t enough. Kyle Seager hit a walk-off double in the bottom of the 10th inning off Tigers closer Justin Wilson for a 5-4 Seattle win.
