Infielder Jonathan Schoop, an 11-year MLB veteran, has been designated for assignment by the Detroit Tigers ahead of the All-Star break, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.
Schoop is owed about $3.47 million of his $7.5 million salary for the 2023 season. The 31-year-old hit .213 with zero home runs, seven RBIs, 13 walks, 37 strikeouts and a .550 OPS in 55 games.
The Tigers informed Schoop of the decision after Friday's 12-2 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays.
