The Detroit Tigers will not tie the franchise record for futility.
With an 8-4 win over the Baltimore Orioles at Comerica Park on Saturday night, the team is guaranteed to lose fewer games than the 2003 team, which lost an American League-record 119 games.
But while the 2019 Tigers could breathe a sigh of relief in avoiding a history that none want to make, the Orioles trimmed a game off the Tigers’ lead for the No. 1 overall pick in next year’s draft.
